How long will the hot weather last? Here’s what Londoners can expect next week

London is set for a few more days of hot weather before temperatures begin to ease later next week, according to the latest forecasts.

The capital is expected to remain above 30°C in the first half of the week as high pressure continues to bring sunshine and dry conditions across much of southern England. The Met Office says the current spell of hot weather is likely to continue into next week, with some parts of the UK experiencing an unprecedented run of temperatures above 35°C this year.

However, forecasters say a change is on the way.

Weather maps suggest cooler Atlantic air will gradually move across the UK from the west during the second half of the week, bringing temperatures closer to the seasonal average. While many areas are expected to remain warm, the intense heat is forecast to ease as cloud cover increases and the chance of showers and thunderstorms returns.

London is still likely to enjoy warm summer weather, but daytime highs are expected to fall back into the mid-20s by the end of the week, offering some relief after several days of temperatures above 30°C.

The UK Health Security Agency has issued heat-health alerts for parts of England, warning that prolonged high temperatures can pose health risks, particularly for older people, young children and those with underlying medical conditions. Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid direct sunshine during the hottest part of the day and check on vulnerable neighbours and relatives.

Although this heatwave is expected to break, forecasters say summer is far from over. Long-range outlooks suggest warmer-than-average conditions could continue through the rest of July, with further hot spells possible despite occasional showers and thunderstorms.
